I am proud to see that Minnesota legislators are proposing legislation to create a paid parental leave program that allows mothers and fathers to take time off to care for their new child. This is a necessity that will greatly benefit Minnesotan families.
Whether it’s a new-born baby or an adopted child, parents should be able to provide them with constant attention for the first six weeks. Parents should never have to choose between a paycheck and the needs of their new child. This is common sense legislation that Minnesotans value. This bill could be paid for by using billions we have in the budget surplus.
This is another opportunity for Minnesota to lead the nation in its commitment to families. I ask that you advocate for paid parental leave so we can provide both parents and children the support they need and deserve.
